Layne G. Johnson

Objective

Implement new CAD/CAM/CAE technology in design and manufacturing

Experience

  Mechanical Engineer

January 1998 to Present

  • I create and drive subsea robotic designs through the CAD/CAM/CAE design cycle in order to produce proven designs at a reduced cost.
  • I manage large 3D CAD models from concept to production. I used many CAD configuration techniques in order to maintain "fixed" and "in process" design iterations carried out by other task engineers.
  • I develope from hand sketches, 3D CAD concept models for the presentation of engineering subsea vehicles and components to communicate concepts that support large ocean vehicluar proposals.
  • I create graphic concept presentations in Powerpoint of all models including renderings and computer animations.

Mechanical Application Engineer

March 1996-January 1998

  • I currently disseminate leading edge mechanical design technology to potential design and manufacturing customers through seminars, consultation and private demonstrations of the industry’s newest design software programs
  • I have expertise in 3-D feature-based parametric solid modeling using SolidWorks and Mechanical Desktop, AutoSurf and have used AutoCAD extensively since 1991.
  • I am currently in charge of high resolution rapid prototyping using the Sanders Model Maker II rapid prototyping machine
  • I am responsible for the development, organization and presentation of seminar and demonstration material.
  • Currently I train customers in the use of Solidworks, Mechanical Desktop and AutoCAD releases 12, 13 and 14. I have created CAD curriculum for some customer training.
  • I perform both pre and post sales technical software support.
  • I install and troubleshoot all mechanical software installations including printing/plotting sites for DOS, Win 95 and WinNT 3.51 and 4.0.
